General Guidelines on the Implementation of the New Education Pathways in Cambodia

Within the context of Cambodia’s education sector reform, the development of responsive study orientation programs and the establishment of education pathways are highly important. Regarding the new education pathways, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training have agreed to divide them into three pathways: the Science pathway, the Social Science pathway, and the Vocational pathway, which will be implemented starting from Grade 10 and above. The establishment of these new education pathways aims to provide students with structured and comprehensive study routes in order to achieve their academic and future career goals.

These new education pathways serve as a framework to guide and orient students to gain access to various information and learning experiences, starting from lower secondary education and vocational training. Through technical mechanisms, these three education pathways help learners identify their interests and potential career opportunities, while also promoting motivation and participation from all relevant stakeholders. At the same time, study orientation programs and the implementation of learning pathways at the lower secondary level will help bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, enabling students to acquire relevant and essential competencies for the future labor market. Furthermore, these new education pathways contribute to enhancing educational equity by addressing the diverse learning needs of students, enabling them to achieve their future career aspirations. These new education pathways also facilitate the transition between levels of education by ensuring that each student is adequately prepared for various challenges across the Science, Social Science, and Vocational pathways.
