Detailed Curriculum of Basic Life Skills for Primary Education

The detailed curriculum document for basic life skills for primary education has been developed in relation to topics that reflect the needs of the local community. This curriculum includes topics related to agriculture, services, small-scale handicrafts, entrepreneurship, leadership, and social issues. This document serves as a foundation to support school management teams and teachers in selecting topics, preparing schedules, teaching methods, and assessments for the implementation of the basic life-skills program in Grades 4, 5, and 6 effectively and sustainably, as well as providing opportunities for students to develop the skills needed to live in society.

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport has enabled schools to implement the basic life-skills curriculum by cooperating with development partners, local communities, and relevant stakeholders. In actual implementation, schools face many challenges, and teachers’ understanding of the life-skills curriculum remains limited. These challenges arise from the lack of specialized life-skills teachers, insufficient budget, lack of curriculum materials, and shortage of textbooks.

Previously, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport developed several documents for life-skills education, such as:

  • A guideline on the implementation of the basic life-skills curriculum for schools, communities, and non-governmental organizations, which serves as a reference for stakeholders to develop basic life-skills programs, showing the implementation process in 2006.
  • The Basic Life-Skills Curriculum document, which assists life-skills teachers with 20 modules as examples for selection in 2006.
  • A guideline for basic life-skills education explaining teaching and learning patterns based on lessons about planting and raising animals to help students become producers.
  • A teacher’s guide for basic life-skills education. Since 2020 onward, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport will continue developing additional documents to support schools in implementing basic life skills, such as:
    – Basic Life-Skills Curriculum for Primary Education
    – Student books and teacher guides
    – Teaching and learning materials and teaching aids
