On May 29, 2025, the NGO Education Partnership (NEP) hosted its 57th episode of EduNetTalk, a monthly online discussion that brings together education stakeholders to address pressing issues in Cambodia’s education sector. This session spotlighted the theme “Strengthening Community and Parental Engagement to Improve Student Learning Outcomes”, a topic that has grown increasingly important in the post-pandemic educational recovery and reform efforts.
The talkshow featured a dynamic panel of experts and practitioners, including Mr. Yim Buntheng, Executive Director of Cooperation For Alleviation of Poverty (COFAP); Mr. Hom Soengheak, a school principal from Kampong Thom province; and Mr. Chhun Ramy, Deputy Director of the Department of Primary Education at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. The session was moderated by Ms. Kuy Romdol from Room to Read, who facilitated a rich dialogue between grassroots and policy-level perspectives.
The speakers shared insightful strategies and real-life experiences on how community and parental involvement can positively impact student learning. From organizing parent-teacher meetings and community-based learning activities to empowering school support committees, the panel highlighted initiatives that have led to improved school attendance, greater student motivation, and enhanced academic performance.
Challenges such as limited awareness among parents, lack of resources, and communication barriers were also discussed, along with practical recommendations to overcome them. Importantly, the discussion emphasized the need for stronger collaboration between schools, civil society, and government actors to build trust and ensure long-term engagement from communities.
Streamed live on NEP-Cambodia’s Facebook page, EduNetTalk #57 successfully brought together a wide audience of educators, NGOs, and parents. The session underscored the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in shaping an inclusive and supportive learning environment for Cambodia’s children.
