As Cambodia continues its efforts to strengthen its education system, the role of digital technology in enhancing student learning outcomes has become an increasingly important topic of discussion. With the growing availability of digital tools and online learning platforms, educators and policymakers are exploring how technology can be effectively integrated into classrooms to support student achievement.
This month’s EduNetTalk #55, organized by the NGO Education Partnership (NEP), will focus on “Using Digital Technology to Improve Student Learning Outcomes in Cambodia.” The discussion will center around Model Primary School Standards – Standard 1: Student Learning Outcomes, examining how digital interventions can help address learning gaps and improve educational quality.
The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MoEYS) has emphasized digital technology as a key component of its education reform efforts, particularly in response to challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. While online and blended learning approaches have gained traction, questions remain about their effectiveness, accessibility, and the capacity of teachers to integrate technology into their lessons. This session will provide a platform to assess the progress made so far and explore opportunities for further innovation.
The discussion will feature perspectives from multiple stakeholders, including a representative from MoEYS, who will share insights on national strategies and policies supporting digital education. A school representative will provide firsthand experiences on how technology is being implemented in classrooms and its impact on student engagement and performance. Additionally, an NGO representative will discuss the role of civil society in advocating for and supporting digital learning initiatives, particularly in underserved communities. A moderator will facilitate the conversation, ensuring a dynamic exchange of ideas and practical recommendations.
Despite significant advancements in digital education, challenges remain, particularly in rural areas where internet access and digital literacy are limited. Teachers also require professional development to effectively utilize digital tools, and students need appropriate support to benefit from technology-enhanced learning. By bringing together education stakeholders, this EduNetTalk aims to identify solutions, share best practices, and promote policies that support meaningful and equitable digital integration in Cambodian schools.
