The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS) has outlined key achievement indicators to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the Pentagon-Phase strategy. These indicators play a crucial role in assessing the progress made in ensuring quality and equitable education for all Cambodians.
One of the key findings in this year’s report is the status of the International Student Assessment (PISA). While the results are not yet available, the assessment program is scheduled to be implemented in the second half of 2025 and 2029, marking a significant step in evaluating Cambodia’s education system on an international scale.
In terms of enrollment, the overall rate at the lower secondary level reached 75.2%, surpassing the set target. However, the upper secondary enrollment rate stood at 44.3%, falling below the target. Despite this, the progress aligns with the trends observed in the past year, indicating a steady trajectory in secondary education participation.
The report also highlights the dropout rates at both secondary levels. At the lower secondary level, the dropout rate was recorded at 15.5%, while at the upper secondary level, it stood at 13.7%. Although these figures indicate room for improvement, they remain consistent with last year’s progress and reflect ongoing efforts to retain students within the education system.
Overall, the achievements presented in the 2023-2024 report reflect MoEYS’s commitment to the Pentagon-Phase strategy, which aims to ensure that all Cambodians receive an inclusive, equitable education with the necessary knowledge, skills, and lifelong learning opportunities. These results provide valuable insights into the current state of education and highlight areas for further improvement to meet national education goals.
