NEP is pleased to announce Action For Development Organization (AFD) as our newest member. AFD is committed to empowering local communities through a rights-based approach to biodiversity preservation, climate resilience, and good governance. Their work focuses on strengthening community capacity, ensuring equitable access to resources, and fostering sustainable livelihoods.
AFD’s initiatives are centered around three key areas. Natural Resource & Climate Change (NR2C) focuses on community development, climate change resilience, land and forest security, and the protection of community rights. By working with local groups involved in forestry, fisheries, and ecotourism, AFD aims to build stronger, more sustainable communities that can better withstand environmental challenges.
In the area of Community Economic & Agriculture Development (CEAD), AFD supports agricultural cooperatives, producer groups, and community-based enterprises. Their projects include home gardening, animal raising, cash crop production, and aquaculture. They also provide training in life skills, business development, and market access, ensuring that communities can build sustainable economic opportunities while promoting nutrition, hygiene, and youth entrepreneurship.
Through Gender & Good Governance (3G), AFD promotes gender equality by empowering women and youth to participate in decision-making at the family and community levels. Their work also focuses on improving service quality through social accountability mechanisms and advocating for better social protection. Additionally, AFD supports access to education by providing scholarships for underprivileged children and youth, ensuring they have the opportunity to learn and grow.
AFD envisions empowered local communities that are equipped to preserve biodiversity, manage natural resources equitably, and build resilience against climate challenges. Their mission aligns with NEP’s commitment to fostering sustainable development and inclusive education.
