NEP conducts a monthly EduNetTalk, a platform for discussions on key educational policies and practices. Each session brings together experts, educators, and stakeholders to explore solutions to pressing challenges in the education sector. The latest #53 EduNetTalk focused on improving the quality of primary education through the Model Primary School Standard developed by the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports (MoEYS).
Quality education must be fostered at every stage of a child’s development. In primary education, students should acquire essential skills such as reading, writing, counting, ethical behavior, and healthy habits, laying a strong foundation for future learning.
To enhance primary education, MoEYS has introduced five Model Primary School Standards for primary schools, designed to help schools assess their performance and drive improvements with a sense of ownership, autonomy, and accountability. These five standards include:
- Student Learning Outcomes
- Teaching and Learning
- Community Participation
- School Operations and Administration
- School Accountability
This month’s EduNetTalk specifically focused on Standard 1: Student Learning Outcomes. Discussions centered on key challenges in student performance, solutions, interventions, and best practices to enhance learning outcomes. Speakers shared insights on effective policies and strategies for teachers and school leaders to help students succeed.
A significant part of the discussion emphasized the design and implementation of standardized tests and their role in improving student achievement.
