NORRAG Special Issue 10 explores the transformative role of education in creating a more just and equitable world. This issue brings together contributions from diverse experts, offering innovative perspectives on how education can be reimagined to address the pressing social, economic, political, and ecological challenges of today.
On 23 October 2024, from 16:00–17:30 (CET/Geneva), the publication will be launched during a special event. Attendees will have the opportunity to hear from some of the authors and engage in a discussion on the critical issues raised in the special issue.
The authors draw on both theoretical frameworks and practical experiences to present alternative approaches and bold, non-reformist reforms. These include anti-racist and anti-patriarchal education, climate and environmental education, decolonial education, cosmopolitical learning, critical multicultural education, critical pedagogy, democratic schooling, holistic education, Indigenous knowledge, peace education, and education for social justice.
Key themes in the publication highlight the need to challenge dominant paradigms in education and foster more inclusive and equitable learning environments. The contributors emphasize the importance of integrating diverse knowledge systems, particularly Indigenous knowledge, to enrich education’s capacity for change. The potential of education to promote social justice, environmental sustainability, and economic equity is a core focus, as is its role in empowering individuals and communities to challenge systemic inequalities and contribute to a better future.
