In November 2023, the Global Campaign for Education (GCE) launched its campaign on the UN Tax Convention, highlighting the education movement’s support for tax justice advocacy. GCE calls for changes in global tax rules to provide countries with the necessary funding for education and other public services.
In this context, GCE and the TaxEd Alliance will hold a Learning Session on July 23, 2024, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm, to support members of the EdTech Campaign on tax justice and engage with delegates attending the second session of the UN Tax Convention. The Learning Session aims to provide a background on the first round of UN tax negotiations and the upcoming steps, understand different views on framework conventions, objectives, and principles, explore the linkages between the UN’s efforts to change global tax rules and financing for education and public services, update participants on advocacy opportunities for decolonizing education financing through the UN Framework Convention on International Tax Cooperation, and share insights from other countries’ advocacy initiatives on tax justice and education to inform regional efforts.
