The Fourth National Conference on Transforming Education to Promote Inclusion in the Education Sector, held from March 20th to 21st, 2024, in Phnom Penh, marked a significant milestone in Cambodia’s educational landscape. Organized by the NGO Education Partnership (NEP) with support from USAID through FHI360, GPE through Oxfam Denmark, Cooperation Committee for Cambodia, World Vision International Cambodia, Aide et Action, United World Schools, and Epic Arts, the conference provided a crucial platform for advancing inclusive and equitable education for all Cambodian learners.
This event brought together stakeholders from various backgrounds, including government officials, educators, NGOs, civil society organizations, and development partners, to foster dialogue, share best practices, and forge partnerships. The conference featured a range of plenary sessions and discussions addressing key challenges and opportunities in Cambodia’s education sector. These sessions focused on improving multilingual education practices in Ratanakiri province, promoting gender equality in education, mainstreaming disability and inclusiveness, enhancing English teacher training and professional development, and strategies for education financing.
The importance of this conference lies in its potential to significantly impact education improvement efforts in Cambodia. By focusing on promoting inclusion, the discussions and outcomes from the conference aim to inform evidence-based policies, programs, and initiatives designed to address systemic barriers to education access and quality. The collective expertise and commitment of the participants were harnessed to develop actionable strategies and recommendations to tackle these challenges.
In our forthcoming report, we will summarize the critical discussions, insights, and recommendations shared during the conference. By synthesizing this wealth of knowledge and expertise, we aim to contribute to the collective effort to promote inclusive and equitable education in Cambodia. The conference objectives include providing a platform for education stakeholders to discuss pressing issues, fostering a shared understanding of challenges, encouraging innovative thinking, and proposing practical solutions for the education sector. Through this collaborative effort, we hope to make a lasting impact on the education landscape in Cambodia.
