The 2024 Spotlight continental report, “Learning Counts,” was launched on May 7 at the 2024 Conference of the African Federation of Teaching Regulatory Authorities, along with the Spotlight country report for Zambia. This report addresses the African Union’s priority on effective strategies for foundational numeracy skills.
The 2024 Spotlight continental report delves into primary mathematics curricula, textbooks, teacher guides, and learning assessments, examining how these documents align with each other, appropriate pedagogy, and global common practices. This report is the second installment in the “Born to Learn” series, a collaboration between the GEM Report, the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA), and the African Union. The first continental report was launched in October 2022, along with five country reports on the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ghana, Mozambique, Rwanda, and Senegal. The focus countries for the second cycle are Mauritania, Niger, South Africa, Uganda, and Zambia.
