There may be no other time in human history where we must simultaneously ensure a decent standard of living for all, reconnect with nature, promote biodiversity, and advance science and technology for the benefit of humanity. Achieving this requires a shift away from unsustainable economic and social practices—toward prioritizing environmental sustainability and significantly increasing investment in scientific advancement, which underpins the future of humanity and the planet.
These systemic changes cannot be achieved solely through political agreements, funding, or technological innovation. They must be driven by direct human action—starting with green education.
The initiative “Teaching and Learning for Sustainable Development and Green Transition” is structured around three main goals:
-
Inform the Education Congress 2022–2023 by gathering experiences and best practices in education that relate to the concept of green education.
-
Develop a common framework to integrate the green education concept into other priority areas of the education sector, promoting transformative education for sustainability.
-
Position Cambodia as a leader in environmental education within ASEAN and globally—paving the way for the ASEAN Green Deal, should it be launched in the future.
