The National Policy on Lifelong Learning envisions developing all Cambodian citizens to possess knowledge, skills, attitudes, physical well-being, and virtues in order to contribute to economic development and enhance the well-being of individuals, families, and society through the provision of lifelong learning opportunities at all times, in all places, and through all means.
Improving the quality of education, especially the quality of teaching and learning, is a key factor to which the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and education administrators at all levels have paid and continue to pay strong and consistent attention. Capacity development and continuous research are trends of lifelong learning aimed at promoting highly effective teaching and learning, ensuring good learning and good teaching in order to successfully achieve national education goals.
The Ministry has collaborated with universities both domestically and internationally to develop a research document on modern teaching methods for South Asia (CONTESSA), consisting of five modules: (1) Understanding Primary Education, (2) Excellence in Teaching, (3) Implementation of Student-Centered Approaches, (4) Inclusive Education, and (5) Digital Teaching and Learning.
This document has been prepared to facilitate education personnel and stakeholders in studying and conducting research, contributing to the improvement of teacher training programs and supporting the continuous professional development of teacher trainers at teacher training colleges, teachers, student teachers, and other stakeholders through the provision of modern education and diverse teaching methods to motivate students and empower them to participate in decision-making in their learning.
To implement this content effectively, education personnel and stakeholders should: (1) thoroughly understand the content of the document as a guide to promote teaching and learning; (2) effectively apply the content and teaching activities based on student-centered approaches; and (3) regularly evaluate all teaching and learning activities in order to take timely improvement measures.
