Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality

Nominations for the 7th Annual Martha Farrell Award for Excellence in Women’s Empowerment and Gender Equality have been extended.

The Award is a one-of-a-kind platform that recognises individuals who uphold the values of feminism in their day-to-day lives and institutions/organisations that institutionalise practices and policies that prioritise gender equality in every aspect of their work – be it internal team building or programmatic interventions/areas of work.

Selection criteria:

  1. Individual: Any individual of any gender between the ages of 24 – 40 years, working on gender equality and related issues
  2. Institutions: Any institution from any sector, registered for at least five years that prioritises gender equality and/or women’s empowerment

Last year, Grace Banu, India’s first transgender woman engineer was awarded the Martha Farrell Award for Most Promising Individual and Meghana Srinivas, a woman entrepreneur using technology to counter sexual harassment in the workplace was awarded the Special Jury Award – Individual category. The Award for Best Organisation for Gender Equality was conferred to Archana Women’s Center, based in Kerala facilitating women’s entry into male-dominated occupations and Ladakhi Women’s Travel Company, enabling women’s participation in Ladakh’s tourism sector was awarded the Special Jury Award – Organisation category.
