Although the concept of “green education” has been widely recognized and supported by all stakeholders, the Green Transition in education has not yet been launched as a comprehensive and holistic approach. One of the main challenges at the awareness-raising stage is that many education professionals have called for a separate “green education reform program”, distinct from other ongoing reforms—such as the focus on eight priority outcomes aimed at promoting human capital development in Cambodia or the broader Cambodian Education Transformation.
The Concept Note on the Design and Implementation of the Green Education Framework in Cambodia: “Teaching and Learning for Sustainable Development and Green Transition” is structured around three main goals:
- Provide input for the Education Congress 2022–2023 by compiling experiences and best practices related to green education within the education sector.
- Develop a common framework to integrate the Green Education concept into existing priority activities, promoting educational transformation or transformative education.
- Strengthen Cambodia’s leadership and excellence in green education at both ASEAN and global levels, contributing to environmental sustainability as part of a potential future ASEAN Green Deal.
