Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport Press Release on the Continuation of the New Generation School Program and the Cancellation of the Modern Learning Center Curriculum (February 28, 2025)
In this announcement, the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport reaffirmed its commitment to continue the New Generation School (NGS) Program and invest in its implementation across 14 locations nationwide during the 2024–2025 academic year. To support the ongoing development of the NGS initiative, the Ministry will implement the following key principles:
-
Existing New Generation Schools will continue operating, with the Royal Government providing additional funding to replace mandatory parental contributions—ensuring more equitable access to quality education.
-
The Ministry will expand the New Generation School Program based on budget availability, with the aim of offering high-quality, equitable, and non-discriminatory education to more students.
At the same time, the Ministry announced the cancellation of the Modern Learning Center curriculum, which had been implemented by a private company in 18 primary schools, affecting approximately 4,300 students. This program was introduced through a collaboration between the private sector and schools, operating independently of the Ministry’s oversight.
The Ministry cited several concerns leading to the program’s cancellation, including:
-
Violation of public property management procedures
-
Creation of inequality among students in the same classroom—between those who could afford to pay and those who could not
-
Establishment of dual standards within the same school
