Disability Awareness Raising in Siem Reap
Ms. Voleak has a severe disability as project lead in Siem Reap, her project is to raise awareness raising on disability to stakeholders and students in the community. In the first period, the meeting with local authorities, school director, parent representative to introduce the activities in the project and seek for the support and collaboration at Keopor commune, Puok district.
Ms. Voleak’s project aimed to reach out to the local authorities, school director, parent representatives, and stakeholders in Keopor commune. She planned to introduce the project and seek their support and collaboration for its implementation. The primary objective was to raise awareness about disabilities and promote inclusion in the community. The first meeting was held with the commune council, school director, parent representatives, and People’s Action for Inclusive Development team members. The meeting was successful as all key stakeholders were present, and they showed strong commitment towards supporting the project. Ms. Voleak highlighted the importance of the project and how it could benefit the community.
During the meeting, the principal of the secondary school offered Ms. Voleak an opportunity to conduct disability awareness raising sessions to all students at his school. This was an excellent opportunity for Ms. Voleak to reach out to a large number of students and educate them about disabilities through interactive sessions.After the meeting, Ms. Voleak and her team prepared a plan for conducting the awareness raising sessions at schools and within the community. They designed various activities such as role-plays, group discussions, and presentations to engage the audience and promote understanding about different types of disabilities.Ms. Voleak ensured that all materials used during the awareness raising sessions were accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities. The sessions were conducted with utmost patience, and Ms. Voleak answered all the participants’ questions to clarify any doubts they had.Ms. Voleak’s dedication and hard work paid off as the project was a great success. The awareness raising sessions conducted at the school received positive feedback from both students and teachers. The students showed empathy towards individuals with disabilities and expressed their willingness to help and support them.The project outcome also included strengthened collaboration between the local authorities and the community. The project helped break down barriers and promote inclusion within the community.
Ms. Voleak’s disability did not hinder her passion for serving the community. Her gentle, patient, friendly approach won the hearts of many, and she was able to foster strong collaborations with the stakeholders. Ms. Voleak’s disability awareness project in Keopor commune serves as a great example of how determination and hard work can overcome challenges and bring positive change to the community
