This capacity development program is designed to introduce mid-career professionals to applied social research methods’ technical depth and professional breadth. This course will provide an overview of research methodologies and information literacy skills. Participants will be exposed to and tested on major concepts and practical activities, ranging from formulating research problems, objectives, and questions, conducting literature reviews, and gaining the techniques of gathering, presenting, and interpreting the data. By the end of the program, participants are expected not only to develop information literacy skills, enabling them to identify, evaluate, organize, and use information and design communication tools to disseminate the information in all media platforms but also to strengthen the capability to conduct small/large-scale research projects in situations where the acquisition of new knowledge is required for problem-solving and decision making within a scholarly manner aligned with the ethics of academic principle.
The participants are expected to:
- acquire the process of developing a research project or proposal
- acquire the know-how knowledge to ask useful research questions, identify research problem and formulate research objectives
- determine the ethical issues involved in working with human participants
- conduct literature review
- use software such as Mendeley to organize sources
- conduct quantitative and qualitative sampling
- develop research instruments for collecting quantitative and qualitative
- use free online application to collect data and interpret results
- generate research reports, communication materials to present the findings
